Work Requirements

Keep your Medicaid coverage

New work requirements and renewals will go into effect January 1, 2027.

Members need to be aware of key dates to keep from losing their coverage.

Understanding Medicaid work requirements

Starting January 1, 2027, Louisiana Medicaid work requirements may affect some members who are ages 19 to 64. Please read this page carefully to help you understand what may be changing and what steps you may need to take to keep your coverage.

Members up for renewal will be mailed a notice about new work requirements six months in advance of their renewal packet.

Steps to keep your Medicaid coverage

Updating your contact information

There are several ways you can update your contact information:

  • Call AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana or log on to the member portal.
  • Text “INFO” to 72147
  • Call Louisiana Medicaid at 1-888-342-6207.

Who is required to follow work requirements?

Many Medicaid members do not have to follow requirements and will not receive a notice.

The new rules do not apply to you if you are:

  • pregnant
  • disabled
  • medically frail
  • caring for a child or person with a disability
  • enrolled in Medicare
  • or meeting certain other eligibility rules

Members who are exempt or do not need to meet the requirement should not receive a notice asking them to provide more information.

For a list of ways members can be exempt, visit the Louisiana Department of Heath website.
