What to do if you think you are pregnant

If you think you are pregnant, call your PCP or OB/GYN right away. It is very important you see your PCP or OB/GYN when you are pregnant. We call this prenatal care. It helps you and your baby stay healthy.

Picking an OB/GYN

Female members may see an AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana obstetrician and/or gynecologist (OB/GYN) for women’s health needs. These services include well-woman visits, prenatal care (visits while you are pregnant), care for any female-specific medical condition, and family planning. You do not need a referral to see an AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana network OB/GYN.

Search our provider directory for an OB/GYN.

Postpartum care

Did you just have your baby? After you have a baby it is important to:

Schedule his/her first doctor appointment

  • Call your baby’s doctor (pediatrician) to make a first appointment for your baby. Your baby should have an appointment when he/she is 2 – 4 weeks old, unless the doctor wants to see your baby sooner. Find a pediatrician using our online provide directory.
