August 16, 2022 - Newtown Square, Pa.

AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies (AmeriHealth Caritas), a national leader in Medicaid managed care and other integrated health care solutions for those most in need, announced today that its Louisiana Medicaid managed care plan, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana, has been notified by the Louisiana Department of Health of its intent to award AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana a contract to continue serving the state’s Healthy Louisiana Medicaid managed care program.

AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana has been part of Healthy Louisiana since its launch in 2012 and currently serves approximately 232,000 members. AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana has been actively engaged in community development and support, addressing social barriers to health, such as homelessness, food insecurity, unemployment, and lack of access to transportation. The plan also has wellness and opportunity centers in Shreveport and New Orleans.

“We believe Medicaid can be a vital platform to help ensure everyone, regardless of economic or social status, race or disability, has equitable access to quality health care,” said AmeriHealth Caritas Chairman and CEO Paul A. Tufano.

“We are excited to continue providing Louisianans with our innovative, whole person model of care, with its focus on services and supports that will help our members achieve higher levels of wellness and resilience, and improve their life outcomes. We also look forward to continuing our vital relationships with the Louisiana Department of Health, local providers, and community organizations that support our mission to help people get care, stay well, and build healthy communities.”

“The awarding of this contract, just as we’re celebrating our 10th anniversary, allows us to continue helping our members get the care they need to stay well,” said AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana Market President Kyle Viator. “We look forward to staying engaged with our members and the communities in which they live and work, and carrying out our mission of building a healthier Louisiana.”
