AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana Recognized by American Heart Association for Workplace Health Achievement

Scientific, evidenced-based instrument rates, recognizes workplace health programs

February 25, 2021 - Baton Rouge, La.

AmeriHealth Caritas, a national leader in Medicaid managed care and other health care solutions for those most in need, announced that its Louisiana health plan, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana, has achieved national Silver recognition in the American Heart Association 2020 Workplace Health Achievement Index. AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana earned the honor for taking significant steps to build a culture of health in the workplace. AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana is one of 776 organizations that completed the Index assessment, evaluating the time period of July 30, 2019, to June 30, 2020.

The American Heart Association created the Index with its CEO Roundtable, a leadership collaborative of more than 45 members from some of America’s largest companies who are committed to applying evidence-based approaches to improve their employees’ overall health. The Index is a web-based scorecard that looks at organizational best practices and aggregates employee health data to evaluate the overall quality and comprehensiveness of workplace health programs. Studies show that worksites with a culture of health with comprehensive, evidence-based policies and programs, and senior leadership support are more likely to have engaged employees and a healthier, more productive workforce.1

“For more than eight years, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana has made it our mission to help people get care, stay well and build healthy communities,” said AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana Market President Kyle Viator. “That work starts by helping to ensure our associates have the healthiest environment in which to do their best work. We are honored that the American Heart Association recognizes our efforts to create a culture of health and a robust wellness program that cares for the wellbeing of our associates.”

AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana was also recognized once again as one of Greater Baton Rouge Business Report’s 2020 Best Places to Work, with associates giving high survey marks to the company’s benefits such as healthy lifestyle reimbursement, walking programs and lunch-and-learn health education seminars.

AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana has also been recognized by the Louisiana Department of Health as a Level One “WellSpot,” the highest rating level under the state’s “Well-Ahead” initiative. Some of the criteria that AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana met to achieve this designation included offering tobacco cessation program coverage as part of its health insurance coverage for associates, providing support for breast feeding mothers, and implementing a worksite wellness program.
