AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana Recognized as a “Best Place to Work” for Fifth Year in a Row
September 18, 2020 - Baton Rouge, La.
AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana, a Healthy Louisiana Medicaid managed care health plan and part of the AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies, has been selected as a “Best Place to Work” in the Baton Rouge area by the Greater Baton Rouge Business Report for the fifth year in a row. AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana, which currently employs 241 associates throughout the state, maintained its position as one of the top 10 large companies to make the list, holding at 9th place this year. The awards program is a project of the Greater Baton Rouge Business Report, the Greater Baton Rouge SHRM (an affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management), and Best Companies Group.
AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana associates completed questionnaires about the business, its community presence, and the benefits offered to its associates. The health plan maintained or increased its score in every category, with the largest gains in the areas of role satisfaction and work environment. In addition to the main Best Places to Work survey, associates had the option to answer several questions specific to their work environment during the COVID-19 pandemic. Those responses did not influence the overall score, but provided useful insight into the impact of the pandemic and the effectiveness of the organization’s response to it. Ninety-six percent of respondents agreed strongly that AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana’s response to the outbreak demonstrated its care for employee well-being.
"While our associates have been physically distanced in recent months due to COVID-19, they have continued to demonstrate their dedication to the members and communities we serve. That is a testament to their belief in our mission and how much they enjoy working here,” said AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana Market President Kyle Viator. “I’m incredibly proud of how all of our associates have pulled together during this crisis to help ensure that Louisianans most in need continue having access to not only health care services, but also the social determinants that drive health and quality of life.”
Associates receive benefits such as continuing education tuition and healthy lifestyle reimbursement programs, an employee referral program, adoption assistance, and personal and professional development offerings. Associates also have access to no-cost “lunch-and-learn” seminars on emotional, financial, and physical health; consultations with a registered dietitian; flu shots, and other products and services. In addition, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana sponsors public events that encourage its associates to volunteer in their communities. Since the onset of COVID-19, the company has made available additional Employee Assistance Program resources, professional trainings, and virtual activities such as fitness classes, virtual volunteering and Talk About it Tuesdays that allow associates to share and support one another in a safe, nonjudgmental environment.
In 2015, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana was recognized by Louisiana Department of Health as a Level One “WellSpot,” the highest rating level under the state’s “Well-Ahead” initiative. Some of the criteria that AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana met to achieve this designation included offering tobacco cessation program coverage as part of its health insurance coverage for associates, providing support for breast feeding mothers, and implementing a worksite wellness program.
