AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana Sponsors Partners in Wellness Program
Initiative Increases Rural Access to Healthcare Services
AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana, a Healthy Louisiana Medicaid managed care health plan and part of the AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies, is sponsoring the Partners in Wellness mobile screening program to support access to quality healthcare and improve the rate of early detection of cancer in north Louisiana.
The year-round, community-based Partners in Wellness is a program of Feist-Weiller Cancer Center at LSU Health Shreveport. A mobile cancer screening unit with the only mobile digital mammography equipment in north Louisiana travels to rural communities providing access to cancer prevention and early detection initiatives.
“We recognize the importance of access to care in supporting positive health outcomes,” said Kyle Viator, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana Market President. “In addition to maintaining a robust network of providers, supporting the important work of initiatives like Partners in Wellness helps bring healthcare into rural areas of our state that need it the most.”
Partners in Wellness cancer screening is free to qualified individuals. Screening tests for prostate, colorectal, breast and cervical cancer are offered, and Partners in Wellness staff works with patients to schedule any needed follow-ups. The goal of the program is to reduce the burden of cancer in Louisiana through early detection and prevention. The Partners in Wellness unit serves a large area that extends from Vivian to Tallulah to Kinder. The unit also has scheduled monthly screening days at AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana’s Shreveport Wellness Center located at 3709 Jewella Avenue.
“We value the opportunity to work with organizations like AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana to ensure quality healthcare is made available to the most rural parts of our state,” said Jennifer Lance, MHSA Partners in Wellness Project Coordinator. “Together, our shared vision of expanded access to care will help create healthier communities across north Louisiana.”
