Well Care Center
Even though Jacob is young, he already knows how important his doctor visits are. His doctor checks his height, weight, eye sight and hearing. And because his parents take him to the doctor’s office every year, he’s not afraid of the visit.
Your child’s regular checkups are called well visits. Well visits give your child’s PCP a chance to make sure they are growing up healthy. Your child will get any needed immunizations (shots). If the doctor does find any problems, he or she can treat it early.
How often should my child have a well-child visit?
Regular doctor visits are important for your child. Depending on your child’s age, the doctor will do different tests and exams. Try scheduling the visits around your child’s birthday to make it easy to remember.
From your child’s birth to second birthday, your child should visit the doctor at these ages:
- 3-5 days old
- 1 month
- 2 months
- 4 months
- 6 months
- 9 months
- 12 months (1 year)
- 15 months
- 18 months
- 24 months (2 years)
Once your child turns 3, he or she needs to visit the doctor for a checkup at least once a year until age 21.
Well visits are available at no cost to you as a part of your AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana benefits.
