Women's Health Services

Picking an OB/GYN

Female members may see an AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana obstetrician and/or gynecologist (OB/GYN) for women’s health needs. These services include well-woman visits, prenatal care (visits while you are pregnant), care for any female medical condition, and family planning. You do not need a referral to see an AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana network OB/GYN.

Search our provider directory for an OB/GYN.

Well-woman visits

Well-woman visits are important for good health for adult women. Mammograms and cervical cancer screenings (Pap tests) are important steps in maintaining a woman’s health. Contact your PCP or OB/GYN for help with well-woman visits and tests.

What to do if you think you are pregnant

If you think you are pregnant, call your PCP or OB/GYN right away. It is very important you see your PCP or OB/GYN when you are pregnant. We call this "prenatal care." It helps you and your baby stay healthy.

If you do not have an OB/GYN, contact Member Services at 1-888-756-0004 for help picking an OB/GYN. While you are pregnant, your OB/GYN can become your PCP.

C-sections

Most babies are born through vaginal birth, reports the March of Dimes (MOD). This is the best way to have your baby if you do not have medical reasons to have a cesarean section (C-section), says MOD. A C-section is the surgical delivery of a baby through a cut your doctor makes in your abdomen (belly) and uterus (womb). But you could need to have a C-section if there are problems with your or your baby’s health. Your doctor may have other reasons to recommend a C-section.
